FATMAP is gone. The part you actually miss is back.

When Strava shut FATMAP down on October 1, 2024, skiers didn't just lose a 3D map — they lost the guidebook: a mountain explained by someone who knows it. The apps that rushed into the gap chase backcountry tourers. Bonvo is built for the other 95% of us: resort skiers.

What FATMAP had — and where it went

FATMAP's magic was three things at once: beautiful 3D terrain, maps that worked on the hill, and authored guidebooks for the world's great ski areas — all at a price a normal skier would pay. Since the shutdown, 3D winter maps live behind premium subscriptions, and the FATMAP-replacement apps (onX Backcountry, Outmap, Whympr and friends) are built around touring, avalanche terrain and route planning. Great tools — for the skin track, not for your week in the Alps.

Nobody rebuilt the resort experience: every run and lift of the mountain you actually booked, offline in your pocket, with the character of the place explained before first chair. That's the corner of the FATMAP legacy Bonvo takes seriously.

What Bonvo does instead

The whole mountain, offline

One tap downloads a complete resort pack — the full 3D map, every marked run and lift for any of 790+ fully mapped resorts (1414 mapped in total). On the glacier, in the trees, in the valley dead zone: your map doesn't care about signal.

The guidebook layer, reborn

25 resorts already have authored stories — history, character, signature runs, local tips — and every one of the 790+ fully mapped resorts gets run-by-run analysis: measured length, vertical, gradient profile and a 0–100 score for every slope.

Your crew on the actual resort map

Live friend positions pinned to runs and lift lines — not dots on a city map. Positions keep showing on your offline map and sync when a connection appears. When the ski day ends, sharing ends. We never follow you home.

A price that respects skiers

FATMAP cost about €30 a year and people loved it for that. The apps that replaced it charge two to four times more. Bonvo is free this season — all of it.
